Industrial production up on last month but down on 2011Provisional seasonally adjusted data show that in April, industrial production increased by 1.9 per cent over the previous month. Over the corresponding month last year, working-day adjusted industrial production went down by 1.9 per cent.

Monthly comparison

Compared to the previous month, the index of industrial production increased by 1.9 per cent to 104.2 points. All main industrial groupings, except the production of energy, contributed to this increase.

Annual comparison

When compared to the corresponding month last year, the index of industrial production decreased by 1.9 per cent. This was mainly due to a fall of 5.5 per cent in the production of intermediate goods. On the other hand, the production of energy, capital goods and consumer goods increased by 0.9, 3.4 and 5.2 per cent respectively, partially offsetting the overall decrease.
