The JP2 Foundation, in collaboration with Alpine Travel is proud to announce a series of concerts by the Wolverhampton Youth Wind Orchestra as part of its 2012 Gozo and Malta tour.

The Orchestra will be performing between Sunday the 22nd and Wednesday the 25th July 2012, in several different localities around the Maltese islands.

The Wolverhampton Music School is the centre of many musical activities run throughout the city of Wolverhampton. Every week over 600 children take part in bands, orchestras and other ensembles. These include four string orchestras, two symphony orchestras, two wind bands, a wind orchestra and many small chamber music groups.

The children attend normal day schools where they receive tuition from staff based at the Music School. David Woodyer, the Head of the Wolverhampton Music School trained as a clarinettist and conductor at Trinity College of Music, London. Before moving to Wolverhampton, he combined a successful career in performing, as a member of the Diapente Wind Quintet and as Principal Clarinet in the East of England Orchestra, and teaching, holding appointments in schools and colleges. He has conducted and performed throughout Britain and Europe

The Wolverhampton Youth Wind Orchestra and the Wolverhampton Youth Orchestra meet weekly to rehearse on Friday nights and Saturday mornings respectively. The players in both groups are aged between fourteen and nineteen years. Nearly all attend school in Wolverhampton. Both orchestras have undertaken many foreign tours, the most recent having been to Poland, Spain, Austria, Portugal, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Estonia, France, Germany, Switzerland, Slovenia and Italy.

In Gozo, the Orchestra will be performing on:

Monday, 23rd July, 2012 – 8.30 p.m : Concert at the Qala Parish Church Parvis. Held in collaboration with the Qala Parish Church and Local Council. The concert is to be attended by H.E. Acting President of the Republic Anton Tabone. Also attending will be Gozo members of Parliament, the Qala Mayor and councilors, as well as the Rev. Archpriest, along with other distinguished guests.

In Malta the Orchestra will be performing on the following dates and localities:

Sunday, 22nd July, 2012 – 8.30 p.m: Concert at St. Vincent de Paul Residence – main courtyard. Under the patronage of Mario Galea, Parliamentary Secretary for the Elderly and Community Care. Held in collaboration with the St. Vincent de Paul Residence.

Tuesday, 24th July, 2012 – 8.30 p.m: Concert at the Imgarr (Malta) Parish Church Parvis. Held in collaboration with the Imgarr Parish Church as part of the 100th anniversary from the laying of the foundation stone and the 90th anniversary from the arrival of the titular statue of Sta. Marija.

Wednesday, 25th July, 2012 – 12.30 p.m: Lunchtime concert at the courtyard of the Natural History Museum (Palazzo Vilhena), Imdina.
