The Malta Rock Climbing Club (MRCC) has teamed up with the local partner of power tools brand Hilti, Panta Marketing & Services Ltd, as co-sponsors of their ten year project – a joint initiative between the Malta Tourism Authority and the MRCC, aimed at installing safety equipment for climbers in the cliffs of Malta and Gozo.

In the wake of a surge in interest in rock climbing, from both the local and the international climbing community, Hilti Malta have generously donated the latest, high-tech cordless TE-6A 36 volts lithium ion drill from their product range to help MRCC volunteers with the hard physical work of installing safety anchors for the use of climbers wishing to explore the amazing cliffs surrounding the Maltese islands.

MRCC President Andrew Warrington stated that, “with the help of this generous contribution by Hilti Malta, who have supported the MTA-MRCC Bolting Project since its earliest days, the climbing community is able to expand the scope of its activities and make our sport safer and more accessible.”

Panta Marketing & Services, stated that “the company has recognised the valuable work being done by the local climbing community. The Company’s policy has always been to place safety as its top priority and this Hilti professional drill sponsor for the implementation of the Bolting Project is a further encouragement toward the safety aspect in a growing sport that provides Malta’s youth with an adventurous outlet for their energies.”

“During this year alone, Malta has featured in no less than three international publications with lavish photographic spreads showing the magnificent cliffs of Malta and Gozo being enjoyed by some of the world’s best climbers. The leading climbing publications in both the UK and Italy have shown Malta as a newly discovered climbing paradise, and most recently Malta featured on the front cover of the 2012 catalogue of the world’s leading climbing hardware manufacturers, Black Diamond.”

“In Malta, the climbing community has responded enthusiastically to the added safety provided by the MTA-MRCC Bolting Project’s work and that of other local clubs and taken up the sport with renewed vigour. A community that until 2005 still numbered only about 25 has now grown into an active body of around 150 climbers spread over three local climbing clubs. There has been a comparable increase in visitors from overseas who come to explore the challenges these cliffs have to offer.”
