Six new projects that were funded by the Ministry for Gozo scheme for Gozitan Local Councils and NGOs, have now been completed. The Projects were implemented by four NGOs and Local Councils in Gozo and are all in accordance with the measures laid out in the Action Plan for eco-Gozo from 2010 to 2012.

The Minister for Gozo, Giovanna Debono met with representatives of the NGOs and Local Councils who benefited from these schemes and presented them with their respective financial contributions. These local entities included the Fontana Local Council, Din l-Art Helwa, The Maltese Islands Agri Federation, the Nadur Mnarja Philharmonic Society and the Santa Maria Philharmonic Society of Zebbug.

The Fontana Local Council undertook two projects. The project carried out by Din l-Art Helwa incorporated the installation of multi-lingual interpretation panels at Xlendi Tower, the Tower of St. Mary, Comino and Battery St. Mary, Comino and the Battery of Qala. Another part of the project was the production of ‘A Tale of Two Towers’ DVD, highlighting the significant fortifications in Gozo and Comino and explaining their historical importance.

The Maltese Islands Agri Federation organised training courses for operators in the agri-food industry. It aimed to ensure that farmers have the knowledge required to adhere to the regulations when providing agri-food products to be used for processing.

Mnarja Philharmonic Society replaced the lighting system in the band club theatre with a new energy saving system, while the Santa Maria Philharmonic Society conducted conservation projects related to water, emissions reduction, as well improvements in accessibility, building a reservoir for water, the installation of energy-saving lighting and the installation of a lift.

    1. Peter Paul Abela says:

While Society conducted conservation projects related to WATER like building reservoirs for water the Minister of Gozo didn’t lift a finger to protected Ghajn Qasab Spring potable water and its reservoirs. The farmers never asked for money from the Minister because water flows naturally with no expenses at all .
