A tomato festival took place over the weekend in Kercem as part of the Summer Festivals Season organised by The Ministry for Resources and Rural Affairs through the theme of ‘Naturalment Malti.’
Over the two days there was a programme of activities related to the theme of the feast – the tomatoes. There were visits to tomato fields where the public saw the process of harvesting tomatoes as well as the chance to join in themselves.
A number of competitions were held for local farmers and growers, with prizes for the best variety of tomatoes. The prizes were awarded on Sunday morning by the Parliamentary Assistant for Resources and Rural Affairs, Philip Mifsud.
Throughout the two days of the festival there was a programme of activities, held mainly in Pjazza Orvieto, which included games and entertainment for both children and adults.
The event was organised by the Ministry for Resources and Rural Affairs, in collaboration with the Ministry for Gozo, the Kercem Local Council, tomato producers in Gozo and Malta, the St Gregory Band of Kercem and Grupp Armar Ghajn Tuta.
