The State Funeral the former Prime Minister Dom Mintoff was held this morning. Archbishop Paul Cremona celebrated Mass praesente cadavere at St John’s Co-Cathedral in Valletta.
The President of Malta, George Abela, accompanied by the political leaders led the State Funeral.
Many hundreds of people gathered along the streets of Valleta to pay their last respects to Dom Mintoff, who died on Monday at the age of 96.
AFM pall bearers carried the coffin, which was draped with the Maltese flag, out of St John’s Co-Cathedral at the end of the funeral Mass. The crowds of people waiting outside immediately started to sing the National Anthem.
The cortège continued at a slow march through the crowds of people along Merchants’ Street, past the Auberge de Castille and then down Glormu Cassar Avenue to the War Memorial in Floriana, from where the funeral continued in private.

Valletta today was covered with a carpet of love
when thousands of people gave their last good bye
to our ex Prime Minister, Dom Mintoff.
May his enthusiasm be inherited by future politicians
and may he rest in peace.
Thanks Perit for what you have done for Malta.

Malta never Had such a Great Leader , or will ever have another Great leader Like Dom Mintoff . He put Malta on the map , And he Lead Malta, to where we are right now. . He saw the LIGHT shinning on China many Years ago ,while the West Leaders were Blind, by not seeing it, But Mr Mintoff KNEW it ,where China is hidding to way ahead , than any body else’s .. He was a man that was able to see the Future from far Distant .. . May he rest in Peace . Walter Sultana
MINTOFF’S FATHER WENZU WAS FROM GHASRI GOZO .
In the biography of the ex President of Malta Censu Tabone who’s born in Gozo were written these exact words ,’ Tabone and Mintoff sit on opposite sides of the House for the best part of half a century the two eldest, outstanding politicians for the 20th century who have made it into the new millemium. Ironically Tabone, like Mintoff, had a father from Gozo and a mother from Cospicua. Censu’s father Kolinu hailed from Victoria Gozo, whereas Mintoff‘s father Wenzu was from the small village of Ghasri Gozo’.
