A three-year old child is in a critical condition after getting into difficulties while in a swimming pool at a private residence in Qala.

Police said that the incident happened at around 4.30pm this afternoon at a house in Triq il-Belvedere. The young boy was taken to the Gozo General Hospital, where because of his serious condition, doctors decided to transfer him to Mater Dei Hospital.

The Duty Magistrate Paul Coppini was informed about the case and he has appointed various experts to assist in the inquiry.

Police are investigating the case.
