AFM rescues Irish female diver from rough seas at QbajjarA 44 year old Irish female diver was rescued by the Armed Forces of Malta yesterday evening after finding herself in difficulties in rough seas at Qbajjar.

At 6pm yesterday evening the Operations Centre of Armed Forces of Malta in Luqa was informed by the Victoria, Gozo Police Station that a swimmer was in difficulty in rough seas close to Qbajjar.

The AFM’s Operations centre immediately scrambled an Alouette III helicopter to the area with rescuers onboard to render assistance. The Gozo Based P32 Patrol vessel was also diverted to the reported position.

A team of AFM divers from the 3rd Regiment was also kept on standby. At 6.41 p.m. the Alouette helicopter arrived on the scene and winched the swimmer to a safe spot close to Qbajjar.

It was established that the woman did not require any medical assistance whatsoever.
