Kercem’s St Gregory Band on eight day tour of Central Italy

As part of the 15th Anniversary celebrations of Kercem’s St. Gregory Band, it is organising an eight day tour of central Italy, which starts on Tuesday.
A group of around 70 people, made up of the bandsmen, family members, villagers and committee members, will leave Malta on Tuesday, the 11th of September and return the following Monday, the 17th of September.
One of the highlights of the visit to Italy for the band will be the participation in the General Audience of Pope Benedict XVI on Wednesday, the 12th of September, this will be followed with a march by the St Gregory Band with the Banda San Gregorio da Sassola, of the San Gregorio da Sassola province in Rome.
The St Gregory Band of Kercem will also be hosted by the Banda San Gregorio da Sassola during their stay. A courtesy visit will be made to Orvieto, the town twinned with Kercem, to which both the village and the Society have very close connections.
The bandsmen and the members of the group will also have the opportunity to go sightseeing and take cultural tours such as to Assisi, as well as visit various places of artistic and historical interest in the centre of Rome.
The tour group will be accompanied by officials of the Band Committee and an experienced tour leader.
