Following the launch of the Malta Film Fund 2012, earlier this year, the Malta Film Commission organised a series of information sessions in order to promote and provide information on the fund; especially to emerging and experienced film-makers who may have not been aware of the opportunities provided by this fund.

The Malta Film Fund encourages emerging and experienced film-makers to develop their potential and support original and exciting ideas and stories for new works as well as the completion of film projects including the making of full-length features, documentaries, experimental, short and animation films, which ultimately help in strengthening talent and the local audiovisual industry.

A record of 21 applications were received by Thursday 30th August 2012, the closing day for applications for the Malta Film Fund 2012. From these, 11 are for development projects and 10 are for production projects

In the coming weeks an independent evaluation board, including foreign experts, will carry out the assessment of all projects and an official announcement will be made, in due course, regarding beneficiaries of the Malta Film Fund 2012.

This year The Malta Film Fund has been increased to €250,000 for the development of films and documentaries and the production of short films, feature films and documentaries.

The Minister for the Economy, Finance and Investment, Tonio Fenech and the Minister for Tourism, Culture and the Environment, Mario De Marco, welcomed the increased interest, by persons involved in the film industry. “This fund is assisting in the growth of the local film industry and local productions and aims at encouraging locals to provide better value added to foreign film makers, thus benefiting from the new opportunities which are being created.”
