The Gozo University Group executive committee and the Minister for Gozo, Giovanna Debono, recently met at the Ministry in Victoria, as part of the consultation process connected with the 2nd eco-Gozo Action Plan for 2013-2015.

A document presenting a synthesis of the previous public consultation for eco-Gozo was presented to the GUG executive, which was also invited to submit a list of initiatives in order for them to be considered for inclusion in the 2nd-Action Plan.

The problem of brain drain in Gozo was discussed. It was acknowledged that the increase of Gozitan youths who are continuing with their tertiary or vocational education has increased the challenge of creating more value added jobs that respect their competences.

The GUG executive suggested better guidance regarding the current and predicted technical needs of the Gozitan and Maltese economy. The possibility for a campaign for social responsibility involving both entities was also brought up.

The GUG executive thanks the Minister for all the aid and support given by her Ministry to the GUG during the previous year, especially with regards the increase in the Gozitan Student grant, the holding of exams at the University Gozo Campus for students following courses at the main campus and for the Gozo week financing.

The GUG executive highlighted its objectives, which include the ongoing process of the integration of MCAST and ITS Gozitan students in the GUG. It also expressed its satisfaction at being considered as the 5th most hard working organisation within the University, giving it the right to use a shared room on campus.

The issue of increased public transport that would better suit the need of Gozitan students in Malta was also mentioned during the meeting, as well as the future events and initiatives being organised by the Group.
