So far 500 seniors signed up to participate in various courses offered by the University of the Third Age. The University of the Third Age is a project offering positive inducements to our seniors. This is another experience of how we can use old age by staying active.

Today the elderly have diverse sources of learning including evening courses organised by the Directorate for Lifelong Learning, computer lessons in ICT4ALL scheme and the University of the Third Age.

This was stated by Parliamentary Secretary for the Elderly and Community Care, Mario Galea during the opening of the academic year of the University of the Third Age. “The University of the Third Age enriches the key principle of Lifelong Learning which today is given a priority by educators around the globe.”

The University of the Third Age has three learning centres: Floriana, Sliema and Victoria, Gozo. This year, the University will offer no less than 15 new courses ranging from health, social learning, history, political science, and biblical studies.

A positive result of the University of the Third Age is the Association of the Third Age which managed to set up a choir, keep-fit sessions for the elderly, publishes a newspaper, and organize cultural and religious activities.

Mario Galea urged seniors to take part in this positive experience.
