On Monday evening the Labour MP Anton Refalo said in Parliament that the manufacturing of fireworks should be stopped to avoid the repeat of Sunday’s fireworks tragedy in Gharb.
Gozitan lawyer Dr Refalo said that the tragedy on Sunday, which saw the loss of four lives, means that Gozo is experiencing the same sorrow as two years ago when another fireworks factory explosion took the lives of six people.
He said that some youths go to a fireworks factory, just as if they are going to a football match and urged Parliament to help put an end to this practice.
Dr Refalo expressed his sincere condolences to the victims families.

I fully agree with MP Anton Refalo , the sooner you stop this Nonsense Habit, of Fire Factory Works ,the more LIVES . and money you save , .Specially LIVES. If you people keeps this up , the more FUNERALS will attend in the near future ..STOP IT FOR EVER NOW ……………… GOZITAN ……………. FROM MISSISSAUGA ONT CANADA ..
There is no point for me to repeat what other commentators are saying regarding this tragedy. About two years ago I commented about another identical tragedy in Gozo. Accidents and near misses are happening every single year without fail! Shouldn`t the Curia have made a stop to this carnage, I see a similarity with the sexual abuse of children ” SEE NOTHING, SAY NOTHING, HEAR NOTHING” hoping it will go away. Sweep it under the carpet.
And may I ask why this waste of young lives? Who and what did they sacrifice their lives for?? I don`t think that any insurance would cover such risky work ethics and procedures! Fireworks manufacturing, handling and displaying is certainly not a job for amateurs and children. Now will the Curia see to the well being of the deceased`s families. External festivities are not the church`s business is the same B#$@#T I have heard before.
As for the government, the only thing I been told “they don`t want to step on the church`s toes”
To all Maltese and Gozitans. You can take other hobbies other then Village festas and excessive fireworks. Ask your parish priest to do the dirty work.
RIP and sincere condolences to the relevant families

What you mean to say is that anyone can walk in and wander around a construction site, an explosives factory, anywhere anytime. Sorry to say you are a typical stubborn Gozitan, with little or no imagination at all. Yes accidents do happen even with the stringest rules and regulations applied, but you can say “I done my best to prevent them” I have a clear conscience, time to improve the system. The case above was probably a clandestine operation.
Finally all I see in Maltese festas is nothing but gross primitive idolatry, which surpass the Rio Di Janiero karnival.

TO (( Mary )) Maija Sultana
Mary, I disagree with you 100% on your Idea . Let me ask you one thing . Do you let your small children play near DEEP Water alone ?? And expect nothing can happen to them ????… Please think a little , and be MORE Responsable ,,,,,,,,,,,
PS . Those 4 Young men needed some one to GUIDE them, not letting them play with FIRE .. … My Father used to tell me, when I was very Young …….. QISS DARBTIEN QABEL MA TAQTA
