The Ghaqda ‘Il-Milied fix-Xaghra’ (Christmas in Xaghra Society) is organising a seminar about the tradition of the Nativity Scene, which is taking place this coming Sunday, the 11th of November, at 9.30am. The seminar is going to be held at the Xaghra Youth Centre, 28th April 1688 Str, Xaghra near the main Square.

This year crib artisan Victor Darmanin of Kalkara will demonstrate how to construct the Christmas nativity scene using cork. A short visual presentation on the screen will also be given about the historic Nativity of Arnolfo di Cambio of Santa Maria Maggiore of Rome dated way back to 1289.

An informative handout about various designs and studies about the biblical style of crib building and information about the biblical archaeology and architecture at the time of Christ’s birth will be given to the participants.

This year 21 mechanical and static artistic cribs together with a Live Nativity Scene will be on show all in Xaghra including two large baroque cribs crafted in Naples.
