Seminar organised by the Gozo Regional Committee

Gozo’s Regional Development was the main theme of a public seminar organised by the Gozo Regional Committe at the Hotel Calypso, Marsalforn, as part of the Annual General Meeting of same Committee. Speakers included Chairman of the Gozo Business Chamber Michael Grech, Joe Muscat the CEO of the Gozo Tourism Association, Minister Chris Said and leading economist Gordon Cordina.

The seminar was opened by President of the Region Dr Samuel Azzopardi, who reiterated the need of new thinking towards the advancement of the Gozo region. He spoke of how financial services and i-gaming platforms should be created for Gozo and called for the cessation of the attitude that what is good for the mainland is not necessarily good for Gozo.

He stressed that Gozitans are concerned about having a life of quality and job creation is the answer to this. He also spoke of the need that gozitans looking more outwards and start developing sound relations with other regions in the EU as the Gozo Regional Committee is doing with Emilia Romagna and other eight NUTS II regions from six different EU Member States.

Gordon Cordina stated that data shows that a fixed link by itself does not necessarily strengthen an island but the fixed link should be complimented by investment to make such island attractive to live in.
