The 200th birth anniversary of British artist and author Edward Lear (1812 – 1888) who visited Gozo in 1866 and immortalised the description of Gozo as ‘pomskizillious and gromphibberous, being as no words can describe its magnificence,’ will be commemorated in Gozo by a public lecture this coming Thursday, the 6th of December 2012 at 6.00pm at the Conference Hall of the Ministry for Gozo in Victoria.

The lecture will be delivered by Mr Joseph Attard Tabone who has made extensive research about Edward Lear and his visits to Malta and to Gozo.

A small exhibition including six original watercolours of Gozo, four from the National Collection and two from private collections as well as lithographs and publications by Lear will be on show at the Ministry for Gozo between the 6th and 8th of December.

The lecture will be delivered in English.

The lecture and exhibition are open to the public and are free of charge.
