Austin Gatt the Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Communications this morning inaugurated the recently completed road that runs between Xewkija and Victoria, Gozo, along with the road to the Cirkewwa ferry terminal.
The ceremony, which was held in Gozo, was also attended by the Minister for Gozo, Giovanna Debono and the Minister for Justice, Dialogue and the Family, Chris Said. Minister Gatt said that the work on the 3km stretch of Gozo road cost €12 million, 85% of which was funded by the European Union.
The completed road forms part of the Ten-T road network. During the inauguration Dr Gatt said that the missing link in the road network was a tunnel between Malta and Gozo, which the Government is now in the process of issuing a call for tenders to action a feasibility study.
Work carried out on the road between Xewkija and Victoria also included the installation of culverts and pipes for second-class treated water from the Ras il-Hobs plant in Xewkija to be directed on for the use of farmers.
The Minister for Gozo said that 12 sculptures and other works of art decorate the road which are by artists selected from the Public Art in Gozo scheme,

How long will it take ” if ever ” to Rebuild the roads through xewkija damaged whilst being used as diversions
So funny this morning to see 3 men with sweeping brushes walking along the length of the road accompanied by 9 others ” supervising ” the works, others cleaning the sculptures, i hope the minister appreciated the attention to detail for his visit.
and next, a waste of money now on a feasibility study for a tunnel
Rather than wasting money considering a tunnel, which will I fear destroy the tourist industry of Gozo …..tourists want an island paradise not a suburb of Malta, can the remaining pot holed roads of Gozo be repaired in particular the shocking stretch between Gharb and San Lawrenz.

The Connecticut Turnpike with 4 lines on each side cost €1.65 million per km
The New Jersey Turnpike with 3 lanes on each side cost €1.05 million per km
The Pennyslvania Turnpike with 2 lanes on each side cost €0.94 million per km
The Mgarr to Victoria Road (with 1 lane on each side and hold water every time it rains) cost €3.87 million per km.
I think we are entitled to a breakdown of the cost and explanation why it took so long.
