In spite of the grey windy weather Paqpalli Ghall-Istrina has got underway today at the Malta International Airport. Huge crowds of racing fans welcomed the British Formula 1 driver Lewis Hamilton on his arrival with President George Abela in a Mercedes sports car.

Lewis Hamilton presented a cheque to the President for €30,000 from Vodafone for the Community Chest Fund.

The British driver performed on the runway earlier this morning in a McLaren MP4-26 F1 car. Mclaren designed the Formula One racing car for the 2011 season and was driven by Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button the 2008 and 2009 World Drivers’ Champions.
