PN Party asks "why do we need an extra power station?"The Nationalist Party said today that “Labour wants our country to spend 376 million euros to build another power station in addition to the one we have today. With both power stations and the interconnector we will have with Sicily, we will be producing double the energy we actually require.

“Labours’ excuse is that with the extra power station, the country could produce energy at a slightly reduced price. What Labour is not telling you is that once the interconnector with Sicily is in place we will be able to purchase energy at a cheaper cost.”

PN asked “So why do we need an extra power station? Something’s funny with this presentation which Labour, without publishing anything, would like to implement quickly..too quickly.

“Labour is saying that the foreign private business they know about will actually build the extra power station itself. However we all know the obvious – a private business will want to, not only gain that money back, but also generate profit.”

“A quick calculation results in an obvious unnecessary burden on our families. 376 million euros added to a minimum of another 100 million euros needed for shipping gas and the infrastructure necessary for gas storage will result in a 4,000 euro unnecessary burden on each and every Maltese family,” PN said.

“What will happen when our country will solely depend on a foreign company and only one source of energy? Will we end up completely dependent on a foreign business and one source for electrical energy?” PN asked.

The PN Party continued, “A serious Government engages in detailed studies, is open to public consultations and issues tenders in a transparent manner to ensure competitiveness. Labour presented this project in a mysterious way, by saying that it held talks with various companies…held in secret with hidden outcomes.

“Labour’s proposal is even worse than when Sant replaced VAT with another tax which destroyed our finances.

“Some of the things with this proposal of building an extra power station we don’t need and which will, just like Sants’ decision, harm our finances”
