MUT threatens industrial action over supervision allowancesThe Malta Union of Teachers said in a statement this morning that it “has written to the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education and Employment about the supervision allowances and payments for PD sessions due to all teaching grades since September which, are still not paid.”

Mr Kevin Bonello, President, stated that the payments “should have been affected in Wage 12 in December however they have not yet been settled to date (3 wages later).”

“Way back in December,” the MUT said, it “had already notified the Directorates concerned who in return had promised that the payments due will be affected in the January salary. However, once again, the January salary was not accompanied by these payments.”

“In December the MUT was told that there was a problem of change of personnel in the salary section in Gozo and that this was affecting workings for all departments.” The MUT said that it “believes that, a month later, this situation is no longer excusable.”

MUT President Mr Bonello, also said that “this situation is reflective of amateurism at its best.”

The MUT statement said that “in light of this it is declaring that if the payments concerned are not paid through a separate cash payment within 10 working days from today (thus until Monday 11th February) the MUT will be declaring a trade dispute with the Government and will be ordering directives affecting E-Learning Platform courses, Up-skilling Courses, PD Sessions, Break Supervision and Prize Days, without prejudice to further directives issued by Council.”
