Environment and Planning Tribunal rejects Ta' Cenc appealgAn appeal by developer Victor Borg which contested the interpretation of the local plan relating to an area of Ta’ Cenc, was turned down today by the Environment and Planning Tribunal

The developer, hotelier Victor Borg, was planning to build 57 bungalows in that area which would have formed part of a larger proposed development.

A letter was sent in September 2006 addressed to the then Malta Environment and Planning Authority Chairman Andrew Calleja, Environment, in which Minister George Pullicino said that “the recently approved Local Plan for Gozo and Comino should not be interpreted in any way as allowing new development in the area of Ta’Cenc overlooking Mgarr ix-Xini.”

“The phrase ‘limit development in the lower part of the plateau near Mgarr ix-Xini’ is to be interpreted that development is to be limited to what is already existing in this area,” he said in the letter.

The developers in their appeal argued that in fact the “local plan limited, but did not exclude further development.”

The appeal was turned down on a point of procedure. The Tribunal said that the ‘applicant’ was refused as the appeal should have been made after the board had refused the application.

Amazing that MEPA has managed to make at least one good decision for Gozo at last – perhaps Ta’Cenc has a guardian angel after all!
We need a couple for Hondoq and Ramla now as well!
