The Gozo Emergency Response and Rescue Corps (E.R.R.C.) Cadets have seen a number of changes through the year of 2012. The group were able to try out new experiences, ideas, work with their leaders and meet new Cadets.

It was also a year in which the Cadets were divided in two groups – the Junior and Senior Cadets. It was a measure taken in order to provide the Cadets with the best possible methods of learning. The continuous activities of the E.R.R.C. involved indoor meetings which enabled the leaders to impart knowledge in both First Aid and Outdoors to the Cadets.

Having such basic understanding has also given them the opportunity to join the volunteer ranks where appropriate during services and activities by the E.R.R.C..

The last two events of the year included the Gozitan contribution to Istrina 2012 at the Aurora Theatre in Victoria and a fund raising event during the month of December. Thoughout the year there were a variety of outdoor events for all the Cadets to join in.

These included a live-in during the Easter Holidays which was teamed up with youths from Sant’ Antnin Parish Centre in Ghajnsielem, plenty of learning opportunities ranging from games to hikes, abseiling, aerial runway and fire safety. The Cadets also had the summer camp in August at the Chambray camping site. There they were given the opportunity to learn some basic skills in water rescue, search and rescue, first aid and how to build a fire.

The E.R.R.C. leaders said that the “Cadets have learned a lot and improved, not just as Cadets and future volunteers doing first aid, search and rescue and many other disciplines within the E.R.R.C., but also as responsible youths able to seek knowledge, observe to understand and also to know one’s duty. They have truly embraced our motto: “Empowered to learn and help others.”
