At a press conference in front of the Paola Health Centre the PL Leader Dr Joseph Muscat stated, “together with breast cancer screening, individuals will be screened for osteoporosis during the same sitting.”

“A new Government will be giving due priority to patients who are at an increased risk of different types of cancers in order to ensure that these individuals are not stuck in waiting lists and are diagnosed immediately, the earlier the diagnosis, the quicker the cure is given, therefore resulting in a better prognosis,” Dr Muscat said.

The PL Leader thanked all the professionals who are working in the cancer care services.

“A new Government will be striving to combat diabetes through broadening the range of services given to patients, also within their own community,” Dr Muscat said.

He also mentioned the mental health sector, where a new Government will be enacting the Mental Health legislation as soon as possible, “so that it reflects in a realistic manner the current and future demands of the sector.” The PL Leader insisted that “the ultimate objective of these proposals is to promote a more humane health service.”

Joseph Muscat reiterated the PL’s commitment to “further invest in Health Centres, which have been neglected by the current Government during the past years. A new Government will be investing €8million over and above the current levels for the improvement of these Centres.”

Joseph Muscat said “that this will lead to more people being given the necessary service within their own community, whilst resulting in the reduction of overcrowding at Mater Dei Hospital.

The PL Leader also spoke about the proposal of delivering medicines for free to elderly people who are over seventy years of age, those who have a severe disability, as well as for individuals who have mobility problems.
