Victory went to Russia at the final of the Eurovision Song Contest in Belgrade last night. No western European country has won the competition for eight years, and with the usual ‘neighbourly voting’ the results of this 53rd competition followed the same trend.
The winning Russian entry Believe, sung by Dima Bilan, which was a betting odds favourite, gathering 272 points, with full points by, amongst other countries, Armenia, Lithuania, Belarus and Latvia.
The Ukraine’s Ani Lorak took the second place followed by Greece’s Kalomira in third place. The United Kingdom was placed last with just 14 points.
Meanwhile, Gozitan singer Morena has returned home to Gozo, she was greeted at the airport in Malta by hundreds of her fans, well-wishers, and of course her family.
As an outsider to Malta, I would have thought the Russians would thank Morena for promoting Russia with her entry (Vodka) and of course having all the Russian gear on all dressed in black just like Russian Cossacks, next time try Viva Malta, it would have stodd more of a chance to win.
As far as my country the UK, there is talk of pulling out completely and let the Balkans get on with it, its not called Eurovision anymore but more like the ComicVision
Just 5 days ago, the newspapers were full of Malta’s entry with Vodka… only a few days gone and its already forgotton…thats when one wonders is it really worth all that hassle? And what a waste of money that could be used to help unemployment in Gozo.
