AFB Larvae
Dr Marco Lodesani, a renowned international expert on bee-keeping, will be delivering an informative talk on a fatal disease commonly known amongst bee-keepers as AFB.

AFB is the most serious bacterial disease of honey bee brood and is caused by the bacterium Paenibacillus larvae. The disease is transferred and initiated only by the spore stage of the bacterium.

The reason this disease is so serious is that the spores can remain viable and last indefinitely on beekeeping equipment. It is extremely contagious and spreads easily via contaminated equipment, hive tools, and beekeepers hands

This activity will be held on Friday 11th July 2008, at the Guze Micallef Hall of the Government Farm in Xewkija, Gozo, between 6.00p.m. and 8.00p.m.

It is being organised by the Agriculture Branch within the Department of Projects and Development of the Ministry for Gozo through co-financing from EU and national funds.
