The Leone Philharmonic Society has issued a statement saying that Mgr Guzeppi Bezzina of the Gozo Cathedral was assaulted yesterday evening in the sacristy of St George’s Basilica.

The statement said that the assault happened following Vespers, whilst Mgr Bezzina was removing his vestments. The Bishop of Gozo, Mgr Mario Grech, was also present in the sacristy.

The statement went on to say that the society condemned the attack, and expressed it’s solidarity with Mgr Bezzina.
