DAR, the return project coordinated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in conjunction with its partners SOS Malta and Med-Europe of Italy, is managing to get an increasing number of irregular migrants interested in returning to their home countries under its assisted voluntary return scheme, which is co-funded by the European Commission.

This week already saw the departure of one Ghanaian, whilst tomorrow will see the departure of a further six Ghanaians plus one child as well as a Nigerian National. Later this week and early next week should see the departure of one Ethiopian and two Ghanaians.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr Tonio Borg, who is currently attending the United Nations Assembly has raised the issue of irregular migration with several counterpart Ministers during the last hours in New York.

DAR is organizing a very interesting seminar, on ‘Best Practices in Assisted Voluntary Return’ on Thursday 9 October at the Old University Building which will feature very senior immigration officials from several countries. The seminar will be opened by the Hon Dr Tonio Borg, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs. Attendance is free of charge.
