The Minister for the Energy Konrad Mizzi this afternoon visited the Delimara Power Station. During his visit the Minister said that an international call for expressions of interest will be issued on the 11th of April, the aim of which will be to identify interested bidders on the new power station project.

Dr Mizzi said that the call will be issued on leading international journals and websites and the Government will choose the winner a month after its publication and a contract is planned to be in place by the end of September. With a new gas power station emissions will decrease and efficiency will increase, the Minister said.

A full project description statement is to be published in the near future and the Minister also confirmed the Government’s commitment on transparency, saying that it would therefore issue a project status update on a regular basis, which would be done by Enemalta officials, experts, as well as Government Officials and will be available to all.

The Minister reiterated the Government’s PL electoral programme commitment of reducing energy bills. Dr Mizzi said that electricity tariffs will be reduced by 25% and water by 5 %.
