A photograph entered by the EkoSkola team of the Gozo College Boys’ Secondary Victoria, won second place on the ‘Wrigley Litter less Campaign 2012 – 2013’ in the category ‘Photos 11-14 years.’

The Gozo College Boys’ Secondary said that it is very proud of the EkoSkola team, seen in the photograph above, under the supervision of Ms Maria Buttigieg, Ms Maureen Zammit and Student Teacher Ms Vivienne Zammit.

“Uunfortunately car batteries like this are not so rare in our countryside. Apart from being unsightly, the acid in the battery that seeps in the soil damages our environment for many years to come. Not an activity that should be encouraged obviously,” the EkoSkola Team said.

“These car batteries should be properly disposed of. Perhaps together with the Batterina Campaign there should also be a Batterona Campaign??”

The Wrigley Litter Less Campaign was launched as a pilot project during the scholastic year 2011-2012 in Canada, France, Germany, Montenegro and Romania. During the scholastic year 2012-2013, the campaign will be extended to 5 more countries – FYR Macedonia, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Slovakia and Malta. In Malta this campaign will be amalgamated with the YRE programme.

The campaign aims to promote and facilitate long- term behavioural change among young people from around the world with regard to environment and sustainability.
