The seventh edition of ‘Lejlet Lapsi Notte Gozitana 2013’ continues today, with a programme packed full of events, such as art, cultural tours, food, dance, music, museum tours, drama and much, much more.
Friday evening saw the kick-off of this 3-day festival in Gozo and large crowds packed the streets of Victoria for the opening night.
The programme of events for Saturday is as follows:
9.00am An informative lecture on photography by renowned Gozitan photographer Daniel Cilia at St.Ursula Hall, Cittadella Centre for Culture & Arts, Gozo Citadel. Organised by the Gozo Photographic Association.
9.30am Departure of organised Cultural Tours.
Tour 1: Gozo’s Cultural Identity animated by Ray DeBono Roberts.
Tour 2: Gozo’s Rural Chapels animated by Anton F.Attard.
Tour 3: Giuseppe Briffa’s works of art in Gozo.
Tour 4: Victoria’s Old City and it’s quaint alleys by Charles Bezzina.
Tours 1 to 3 depart from the Victoria Bus Terminus while Tour 4 departs from Independence Square, Victoria (near Banca Giuratale). Pre-booking required on 22156700 or info@gozoculture.com.
9.30am Hands-on mosaic- making experience for children and adults (session 1) in Savina Square, Victoria. Co-ordinated by Mary Portelli. Free participation.
10.00am Lecture commemorating the 50th Anniversary of Pope John XXIII’s encyclical – Pacem in Terris. Main Hall of the Bishop’s Curia in Republic street, Victoria.
12.30pm Lunch Time Musical Concert by violinist brothers Jean Noel & Pierre Louis Attard, at St. Barbara’s Chapel, Bieb l-Imdina street, Victoria.
1.00pm Tastes from Gozo – A buffet table with various delicacies from Gozitan recipes. St.John’s demi-bastion, Gozo Citadel.

7.45pm “Angelic Inspirations” – an animated soiree of music, song and dance featuring original music by Mario Caruana. Organised by the Don Bosco Oratory at the Bishop’s Curia Courtyard, Republic street, Victoria.
8.00pm Music from the Chapel by soprano Marouska Attard featuring sacred works by: Bach, Mozart, Fauré, Handel, Portelli. Gozo Seminary Chapel, Enrico Mizzi street, Victoria.
8.30pm A choral concert by Gaulitanus Choir at the Cathedral Church, Gozo Citadel, Victoria.

7.00pm Open Day at the Ministry for Gozo, St.Francis Square, Victoria, with a possibility of viewing the building’s halls and offices. Local folk groups will perform dance shows in St.Francis Square, Victoria.
7.30pm Animated reading by actor Mario Micallef of excerpts from Dante’s “Divina Commedia” (translated in Maltese by Alfred Palma). Narrow street, Victoria. Free seating.
7.30pm “Immaculate” a short contemporary dance depiction of the dogmas and narratives associated with the figure of the Virgin Mary. Produced by the Naupaca Dance Factory at 23, Republic street, Victoria. Show will be repeated every 20 minutes. Last show at 10pm. Free entrance.

I first met Gozo 45 years ago.
Although I was in a relationship with Malta at the time I instantly fell in love with her.
We had to part, it was impossible to continue our ‘affair’ at the time but as it is with one’s first true love, I never forgot her, I dreamed of her incessantly.
Though parted we met sometimes over the years; albeit far too briefly and infrequently.
We struggled to continue our affair over the years and I will admit to some temptations along the way; Cyprus you were one, remember?
Each time Gozo and I met we noticed the little changes in both of us, yet she remained less changed than I.
We are soon to be reunited (in July) and we are determined that we shall never be parted again.
I will remain in her arms for the rest of my life, soothed by her presence and soft embrace. She is my safe harbour.
Thank you for your help and information. Friday evening’s display of Gozo/Malta history was wonderful but would appreciate English translation as most locals already know the history.
