Trip in Delimara Power Station's unit 1 causes power cutsA short power cut caused by a fault in Delimara Power Station’s Phase 1 left many localities around Malta and Gozo without electricity this morning.

Enemalta said that that at around 8.26am this morning, unit 1 suffered a trip at the older Delimara Power Station’s Phase One caused load shedding in some parts of Malta and Gozo

The localities included parts of Birzebbugia, Marsaxlokk, Swatar, Msida, B’Kara, San Gwann, Kappara, Swieqi, Zejtun, Marsaskala, Ghaxaq, Marsa, Qormi, Zebbug, Paola, Fgura, Senglea, Cospicua, St Paul’s Bay, Mgarr, limits of Rabat, Mellieha, Pembroke, St Julian’s, Madliena, Bahar ic-Caghaq, Sliema and Gozo.

Enemalta said that the supply to most localities was restored in 45 minutes by around 9.15 am. All the affected areas were restored by around 10.15am.

“The fault is currently being investigated as in these circumstances the priority is to restore supply to the public in the shortest time possible.”
