The first ‘Gozo Ceramics Festival,’ took place in in Xlending last weekend, organised in collaboration with the Tourism Directorate & the Culture Office of the Ministry for Gozo.

The Exhibition, which was inaugurated by the Minister for Gozo, Dr Anton Refalo attracted large crowds of visitors to the indivdual stands to see the Maltese and Gozitan ceramic artists who were displaying the various techniques used in pottery.

They were able to view works on the wheel, sculpture modeling, throwing of pots on the potter’s wheel, painting on ceramics and the interesting raku firings.

Children alos had the opportunity to get have ‘hands-on’ experience at modelling, have some fun and learn all about pottery.

The organisers said that the aim of this festival was to offer ceramic artists, collectors and working potters, the chance to demonstrate their art to the public at large, increasing awareness and the appreciation of one of the world’s oldest arts.
