The Minister for Gozo, Dr Anton Refalo recently paid a courtesy visit to the Santa Marta Day Centre in Victoria, where he met some of the 40 persons with disability who frequent this centre regularly.

The Minister was also presented with a cake by those at the Centre on the occasion of his visit.

The facilities at the centre include various rooms where persons with special needs, whose age varies from 19 to over 60 years, can improve their skills in areas such as the use of computers, woodworking, pottery and other crafts. It also includes rest rooms and other areas where they can acquire more skills for independent living.

The Daily Programmes consist of Enhancement of Life Skills, Promotion of Health Needs Money Handling, Transportation Skills Traditional Crafts, Self Advocacy,Hydro Therapy Session, Art Sessions in collaboration with the The Art School in Ghajnsielem, Speech and Physical Therapy Sessions Horse Riding Activities and Pool sessions..

Through collaboration with therapists and professionals from the Gozo General Hospital, the members can also benefit from therapeutic services including the use of the Hammett Bath.

There are also the services of a one-stop-shop, which operates from an office near the entrance of the Centre. This office, which is administered with the collaboration of the Gozitan Federation for Persons with Disability, makes it possible for persons with disability and their families to avail themselves of all the services in this sector from a single venue.
