In a statement issuted this afternoon by the Office of The Prime Minister, it said that “the Government had noted the statement made by the Leader of the Opposition on the Auditor General’s investigation into the oil buying scandal.”
The Government is in favour of the Public Accounts Committee meeting during the summer holidays to discuss this case, the statement said. “The Government also feels that if there is a need, a Parliamentary debate should take place when the House is reconvened.”
It said that the Government “is surprised that the Leader of the Opposition made this request to the Government when he could have met the Committee, whose Chairman is a member of the Opposition.”
The statement concluded that “the Government suggests that the first preparations for the convening of the Public Accounts Committee could start as early as next Friday.”
