The U.S. Navy recently sent a group of five sailors to Malta for a bilateral theater security cooperation event with the Armed Forces of Malta (AFM).
The Explosives Ordinance Disposal-trained sailors met with AFM diving and Explosives Ordinance Disposal (EOD) counterparts in Fort Mosta on Sunday and Monday, to share best practices in EOD capabilities and techniques.
The AFM’s EOD section is on call 24 hours a day and members are the sole professional EOD technicians on the Island. They provide security screening both on land and underwater as tasked by the command of the AFM.
The U.S. personnel then returned to their regular duties as part of the USS HARRY S TRUMAN Carrier Strike Group on Wednesday. The USS HARRY S TRUMAN is on a nine-month deployment conducting maritime security and counter-terrorism operations in the Mediterranean Sea and Persian Gulf.
