Members of the Gozitan University Group met with MEP candidate Stefano Mallia to discuss their own agendas. As an introduction, both Mr Mallia and members of GUG gave a brief introduction about their aims and roles. Following this several important issues were discussed.

The Group said that more EU funding needed to be invested in the social sector in Gozo, since currently most of the funds were being used for infrastructure. GUG added that it also believes that further advertisement showcasing Gozo’s natural and cultural riches needs to be done. “This could further benefit the tourist industry.”

GUG pointed out the need for further investment in the University of Malta, Gozo Campus. “This campus is currently only being used on Fridays and Saturdays for part time courses.

“Gozo could offer a unique and diverse ecosystem which could prove as an ideal place for specializations in Earth Sciences and Environmental courses,” GUG concluded.
