Gozo’s Leone Band is celebrating its 150th foundation anniversary this year and the band is presenting its annual symphonic concert at the Aurora Opera House on Saturday, the 2nd of November, starting at 8pm under the baton of Colin Attard.

This year, apart from its own 150th birth anniversary, the Leone Band also celebrated the 100th anniversary of the great Cantata in honour of Our Lady, composed by Orlando Crescimanno, as well as the 25th anniversary of Dr Michael Caruana LL.D. as President of the Leone Philharmonic Society. Then, together with the world of opera, the Leone is also marking the 200th birthdays of two musical giants; Giuseppe Verdi and Richard Wagner.

Therefore, in this context, the band said that its annual band concert is rounding up these celebrations and commemorations in style. Re-branded as The Leone Band in concert, it will feature popular opera selections, film music, and numbers from the popular 20th century classic repertoire.

This year’s programme includes, amongst others, celebrated works by Verdi and Wagner, the celebratory medley Jubilee Spectacular compiled by Colin Attard, as well as Arturo Márquez’s illustrious Danzon No. 2; a favourite concert piece with concert-going audiences in landmark concert venues around the globe.

The Leone Band in concert on November 2nd 2013, is being held at the Aurora Theatre. Doors are open at 7.30pm.

The concert is free of charge to the public, however, for th first time, the general public is kindly requested to pick up its seating tickets from the Aurora Box Office Box Office, or they can be booked by telephone on 21559452 or by email info@leone.org.mt.
