The public consultations on two issues, school uniforms and college line-up reforms, are continuing, with students, educators and parents being asked to complete a questionnaire. The aim is to gain as many views as possible.

The consultations were launched in July, and the Education Ministry has had a good response.

Allowing students to have their say on important decisions in their education is a relatively new concept. It’s part of the Ministry’s policy of empowering school management and students themselves in decision-making processes.

In the college consultation, views are being sought on whether or not a different formulation of the school colleges could lead to a more dynamic and balanced line-up. In the uniform consultation, the question being asked is whether school uniforms should be simplified, abolished or kept as they are.

In comments to the media at the launch of the consultation processes in July, the Minister for Education and Employment, Evarist Bartolo, stressed that should any changes to school uniforms take place they would be phased in over time; he did not want parents to face additional costs should any changes take place.
