Typhoon Haiyan – one of the deadliest in the country’s history – swept through several islands in the Philippines battering large tracts of land and leaving in its wake an almost apocalyptic destruction. Buildings were flattened, rivers swollen and thousands of people were left homeless and without possessions, while others are dead or still missing.
In response to this humanitarian crisis, the Government of Malta announced that it has decided to send €40,000 in response to the United Nation’s call for urgent assistance to the afflicted regions.
The Maltese Government said it is in full solidarity with the Government and people of the Philippines and hopes that the global humanitarian assistance will help the country to overcome the destructive powers of the typhoon and rebuild the afflicted regions in the shortest time possible.

Is that all? Considering the amount of money spent on illegal migrants over here, this amount for a genuine cause is pathetic. These people need help in their own country and are left with nothing. Unlike all these freeloaders that arrive on our shores with their hands held out for benefits. The government should hang its head in shame.
