Government welcomes latest employment figures published by EurostatThe Government said in a statement this afternoon that the unemployment figures published by Eurostat “put Malta among the best performing countries in Europe in the employment sector.”

“The Eurostat report, published today, says employment in Malta is on the rise. The Eurostat report shows that unemployment in Malta in October 2013 was 6.4%, which is 0.1% lower than October 2012,” the Government said.

“This rate was stable since early this year and unemployment in Malta never increased but actually decreased slightly, according to the report.”

The Government pointed out that “the report reveals that the unemployment rate for Under 25s had a sharp 1.6% decrease, from 14.6% in October 2013 to 13% a year later.

“This is being done through several Budget policies, specifically the introduction of childcare centres for working parents, the Youth Guarantee helping youths find their path to employment, lower tax on part-time work and a tax cut incentive for the middle-classes.”
