The Xaghra Local Council has announced that it is organising the fifteenth edition of the annual Christmas Concert, taking place at the Collegiate, Basilica and Sanctuary of the Nativity of Our Lady in Xaghra.

For this year, the Xaghra Local Council said that it has invited the ‘Stella Maris’ Choir and Orchestra to perform various music pieces and traditional Christmas hymns. The Choir and Orchestra will be directed by Mro. Carmel P. Grech.

The ‘Stella Maris’ Choir does not need any introduction in the local music scene mainly because it is involved in many titular and secondary feasts celebrated in different Gozitan Parishes and Churches.

For the last nine years, the Choir has also taken part in the titular feast of Saint Helen in Birkirkara Malta.

The Council said that “the high quality repertoire which the choir performs is due to the professionalism of the conductor and the active members of the choir.”

The Concert programme will have traditional Christmas carols, however, the Choir will also perform other pieces to get the audience into the Christmas spirit, such ast the canticle ‘Laudate Pueri’ composed by Maltese conductor Mro. Antonio Nani which will be premiered in Gozo on this occasion.

The Xaghra Local Council said that it would like to thank Xaghra Archpriest Mgr Carmelo Refalo and the Collegiate Chapter and Clergy for their support in hosting this concert at the Basilica, which will be beautifully decorated for the Christmas festivities. The Council also thanks the entities and establishments who gave their financial aid to ensure that this event will be a great success.

Everyone is being invited to attend this Christmas Concert which is taking place on Friday, the 27th of December 2013, Liturgical Feast of Saint John (Apostle and Evangelist), starting at 7.00pm.

Entrance is free but donations will be collected in aid of the Malta Community Chest Fund which helps people in need.
