Industrial turnover went down by 7.0% in the 3rd quarter - NSOProvisional seasonally adjusted turnover in the third quarter declined by 7.0 per cent over the previous quarter. Over the corresponding quarter last year, working day adjusted industrial turnover decreased by 8.2 per cent, the National Statistics Office said today.

Seasonally adjusted industrial turnover for the third quarter declined by 7.0 per cent to 100.5 points when compared to the second quarter.

This was primarily the result of a decrease of 13.0 and 3.1 per cent in intermediate goods and energy respectively. On the other hand, industrial turnover in respect of capital goods increased by 9.2 per cent.

Seasonally adjusted employment declined marginally by 0.3 per cent from 98.2 to 97.9 points. Energy and Intermediate goods rose by 1.8 and 0.1 per cent respectively while capital goods rose by 0.4 per cent, as shown in Table 3.

Furthermore, seasonally adjusted wages and salaries increased by 2.2 per cent from 107.5 points in the second quarter to 109.9 points in the subsequent period. During the period under review, hours worked adjusted for seasonality decreased by 0.8 per cent.

Compared to the third quarter last year, working day adjusted turnover declined by 8.2 per cent, mainly attributable to a decrease of 18.9 and 3.0 per cent in intermediate goods and energy respectively.

This decline was partially mitigated by an increase in industrial turnover in capital and consumer goods of 10.4 and 1.1 per cent respectively.

Year-on-year data for employment went down by 1.5 per cent due to a decline in all the main industrial groupings, with the exception of capital goods, where employment remained stable.

Meanwhile, industrial wages and salaries adjusted for calendar effects increased by 2.2 per cent, while hours worked decreased by 1.7 per cent.
