Transport Malta to take over public transport from the 1st January

Transport Minister Joe Mizzi said in a press conference today on the public transport system, that in the interim period, public transport will be operated by Transport Malta, using Arriva buses, with a team from the company, starting the 1st of January 2014, until a new operator is in place.
He added that the Government will be issuing an Expression of Interest to operate the public transport service and called on commuters, Arriva employees and trade unions to collaborate with Transport Malta during the transition period.
The Minister stressed that more buses will be needed to provide an efficient service, which will mean that more workers will also be needed and worker’s jobs would be safeguarded.
