Members of the ERRC Gozo were hosted at the AFM headquarters this morning for a certificate award ceremony. This saw the end of an overseas training cooperation between both entities.

One AFM Air Wing Rescue swimmer as well as two ERRC Members (one of whom is an AFM Airwing member), have undergone Maritime Search and Rescue Training in Norway last September.

The two week training course involved physically challenging scenarios in the cold Norwegian waters exposing Maltese rescue personnel to operating procedures adopted by the Norwegian Rescue Society (Redningsselkapet).

Commander of the AFM Brigadier Jeffrey Curmi augured the rescuers on their achievement whilst Col Mark Anthony Said (Colonel in charge of Training) hinted that the current collaboration between both organizations will continue to thrive in the months ahead.

The rescuers that attended the course were Staff Sergeant Derek Pepe, Gunner Eric Bonello and Mr Adrian Axiak

During the brief ceremony, the ERRC kindly donated an AED Trainer (Automated External Defibrillator Trainer) to be utilised by AFM instructors during Advanced First Aid Training.

The initiative was funded by the European Commission under the Life Long Learning Program – Leonardo managed by the European Union Programmes Agency (EUPA).

This project was made possible thanks to the technical assistance provided by the Malta-EU Steering and Action Committee (MEUSAC) which has assisted during the planning and design of the project.
