The Malta Hotels and Restaurants Association (MHRA) in a statement today expressed its satisfaction about the report forecasting 2.6% growth in airline seats and 2% increase in passenger movement by the Malta International Airport (MIA) for 2014.

MHRA said it also positively notes “the role played in this success by low cost airlines, Airmalta which increased its passengers by almost 100,000 passengers on last year, and indeed other airlines.”

The Association said that “over the past years MHRA has worked closely with the Ministry of Tourism, Malta Tourism Authority (MTA), Air Malta, the Malta International Airport (MIA) and other stake holders so that connectivity keeps on improving and strengthened especially over the winter and shoulder months.”

According to MHRA “the good news is that a forecasted 2.6 % growth in airline seats in 2014 will translate into positive returns to our tourism industry, as it will be setting the right foundation for yet another promising year.”

MHRA President, Mr Paul Bugeja noted that, “MHRA is satisfied that the results announced by CEO Markus Klaushofer are a demonstration of a MIA’s commitment to our industry and in sync with the efforts by the key stakeholders; a strategy which needs to be further sustained to ensure building upon the momentum built over the past years. It is indeed clear that when all the stakeholders combine their efforts the results are encouraging.”
