Parliamentary Secretary Dr Jose Herrera speaking on One TV today, said that warden reforms are to be announced in a White Paper that will be launched on Saturday.
He said that the reforms include more emphasis on community related work rather than have wardens simply issue contraventions. Adding that the wardens already employed would be retained, however, they would be expected to follow a training course on community relations.
The Parliamentary Secretary also said that the number of wardens would increase from the 90 that are currently employed, to 120.
Dr Herrera pointed out that currently revenue collected from fines mostly went to the companies that managed the warden service, this, he said, would be reviewed under the new system with more going to the Local Councils.
