The Gozo Cathedral together with the Leone Philharmonic Society has issued a new logo that will appear on all publications that relate to the 150th anniversary of the foundation of the Cathedral.

Pope Pius IX through the Bull Singulari Amore – With utmost love, from the first two words of the document – established the diocese of Gozo and chose the Matrice Church of Santa Marija as the Cathedral of the new diocese

The new logo consists of two concentric circles. Within the circles there are the words Singulari Amore in the upper part, and the dates 1864-2014 in the lower part. also within the circles there are the external ornaments that usually surround the shield, the core of heraldry.

The most prominent is the galero hat, a wide brimmed ecclesiastical hat. It was originally used by pilgrims and is similar to the sombrero. The galero is ornamented with tassels or houppes or fiocchi. There are six on each side, indicating a bishopric, arranged in the form of a pyramid.

The whole symbolises the Bishop of Gozo whose seat is at the Gozo Cathedral.

Beneath these ornaments there are the words ì150 Sena Katidral ta’ Ghawdex.ì
