The Mayor of Xewkija, Paul Azzopardi, was a special guest at the launch of a book entitled ‘Malta-Pachino, una storia in comune’ in a first step towards the twinning of Xewkija with Pachino in Sicily.
The book by Dr Arnold Cassola and Dr Dilvio Aliffi, looks at the story of the first Maltese families who set up the city of Pachino. Through research done by Dr Ray Bondin it seems that most of those families came from Xewkija.
During a seminar that was held for the occasion, the Mayor of Xewkija stated that the city were very eager to establish these links with the families of Pachino who originated from Xewkija. The Mayor of Pachino, Dr Paolo Bonaiuto, also expressed his satisfaction and stated that on the 1st of March he will make his first official visit.
The two Mayors exchanged gifts. Dr Arnold Cassola and Dr Silvio Aliffi spoken about the research they made that led to the publication of the book. The seminar, which was well attended, was closed by Dr Ray Bondin who spoke about his research that links the two cities.
The book will be launched at the Museum of Sculpture in Xewkija on 1st March at 5pm.

Documentary evidence in my hands contradicts the above. The majority of those who emigrated from Gozo to Pachino were from Xaghra NOT Xewkija as is being claimed by this book.
Just want to correct something about the mentioned comment from jb that no one is
saying that the first people were only from xewkija but for sure evidence shows that. One of the main evidence is the connection with st elia statue !! who wants more information can contact dr ray bondin thanks .
