Yesterday afternoon volunteers of the Committee Against Bird Slaughter (CABS) said that they informed the Police about illegal bird trapping inside the Il-Majjistral Nature and History Park, near Manikata.
CABS said that as a result two 15-meter long clap nets and three live Linnets – a protected bird species – were confiscated. The trapper managed to escape before the police reached the site but investigations to reveal his identity are ongoing.
The Il-Majjistral reserve is a Special Area of Conservation (SPA) of international importance within the Natura 2000 network of sites as per the European Habitats Directive.
