The charity hike for the Alive Charity Foundation went really well yesterday, said organiser Louis Debattista. “We had great weather, and a good crowd turned out, 26 people, as well as 3 dogs, to do this fund-raising challenge hike from Mgarr to Xlendi, it was a really perfect and hot Saint Joseph’s day!”

One of those who joined in the hike said, “What a day for a hike! Mgarr to Xlendi, all along the coast line. Spectacular views, gorgeous sunshine and warm temperatures! Oh, and all for a good cause…supporting Gozo-Greyhounds Louis in his endeavor to ride in the ALIVE Charity Foundation cycling challenge for Breast Cancer Research (1,000 km in 7 days from Prague to Belgrade). Louis…you rock!Another fellow hiker commented, “it was such a super, brillant day !!! We all were going great and nobody complained!! We saw beautiful scenery and the sea was sooooooooooo ach…no words for it !! All the kids, the dogs, the ladies and the gentlemen that came had a very good, healty day !! Thanks to Louis we all got a very big ice-cream in Xlendi and then back with the oldtimerbus to Mgarr!! So now we feel better ’cause of all the energy we got and the good air we could breath!!”

The second edition of the Malta Airport – ALIVE2014 Cycling Challenge for Cancer will take 45 cyclists from Malta, including 12 female participants, across five European cities: from Prague to Vienna to Bratislava to Budapest and finally to Belgrade.

Out of the 45 cyclists taking part in the event, Louis Debattista of the Gozo-Greyhounds Youth Athletic Club in Qala, is the only Gozitan in this year’s challenge, he also took part in last year’s event.

A total of over 1,000km will be covered in just seven days. The funds raised from this challenge will go towards the Research Trust (RIDT) of the University of Malta, to be utilised in breast cancer research projects in order to ensure improvement in survival rates of breast cancer patients in Malta.

Louis has said that the next fund raising event he is planning is a cycle ride on the 6th of April starting at 9.00am near to the Police Station in Mgarr, it will be about 50K to 60K around Gozo, a nice an easy ride, and then off for Pizza and drinks in Qala. Louis is asking participants to donate €10 or more if they can, as a donation to Alive Charity Breast Cancer.

Louis would really like as many people as possible to join him on the cycle ride and help him raise money for this very worth cause.
